The W58 transmissions came in many of Toyota’s cars and trucks worldwide. Some of those W58 transmissions have a remote mounted shifter which hangs off the rear of the transmission, such as one on the Lexus SC300. This is the wrong “shifter housing” for your HVDA conversion and needs to be replaced with the correct Toyota shift lever housing which came stock on the Celica/Supra and Pickup. However, these “correct” shift lever housings are becoming increasingly hard to find. To resolve this problem, Moss offers the HVDA shift lever housing that completely allows the use of remote mounted shifter transmissions with the HVDA 5 speed conversion kits.
Note:
– None of the HVDA 5 speed conversions come with a shift lever housing. You will need to purchase it separately.
– Since there are variations in the transmissions, it’s recommended that you check and verify the transmission in advance before you buy the shifter housing.
– The shifter housing is not needed for W58 transmission where shifter is located directly above tail-shaft housing, such as ’82-86 Celica/Supra. But it can be used by removing the tail housing from the transmission to install either shift lever housing.
– Installing this shifter housing eliminates the use of 5-speed transmission kit parts 440-383, 384, 385, 388 as the TR shifter (with nylon ball) will go directly into this part rather than the adapter block used in the standard kit with standard tail-shaft housing mounted shifters.
